Ritzville FFA scores at CDE days

The Ritzville FFA Chapter participated in the District 9 Team Career Development Event (CDE) competition at Big Bend Community College in Moses Lake on Friday, Mar. 16.

Ritzville FFA took one Food Science Team and two Ag Mechanics Teams to the competition.

The food science team members included Haley Campbell, Ashley Ambers, Brooke Pichette, and Haley Oestriech.

Food science members took a 50 question test, evaluated customer complaint letters, determined safety violations in the workplace, performed a triangle test on foods, determined different aromas, and did a flavor, textural, and visual analysis of food.

There were 10 teams at the contest. Ritzville placed third overall with Campbell placing eighth in the competition, Pichette placing ninth, Ambers placed 10th and Oestreich placed 11th. The team moves on to compete at the State Convention this May.

In Ag Mechanics, Team No. 1 members were Palmer Phillips, Drew Hartz and Jake Dewald. Team No. 2 members were Jessie Miller, Jacob Anderson and Tyler Greenwalt.

Team No. 1 finished second overall out of 18 teams and the Team No. 2 members finished third overall. Individually Phillips was seventh high individual out of 47 contestants, Dewald finished 10th and Anderson finished 11th overall.

In the Ag Mechanics contest students took a knowledge test and demonstrated skills in arc welding, construction, electrical and tractor power.
