Wheatland Bank safeguards commercial customers from cyber thieves with IronKey Trusted Access

In an effort to provide state-of-the-art protection to its business customers and safeguard their accounts from financial malware attacks, Wheatland Bank is stepping ahead of its competition and proactively protecting its business customers against escalating threats from cyber thieves targeting ACH and online wire payment transfers.

Through a partnership with IronKey, Inc., Wheatland Bank will provide its online business banking customers with IronKey Trusted Access (internally branded as Wheatland Secure), a secure browser that helps prevent identity theft, payments fraud and online banking account takeover.

“At Wheatland Bank, we are committed to providing our customers with the most modern technology available to conduct their commercial banking services and providing them with the highest levels of online security,” said Susan Horton, president, CEO and chairman of Wheatland Bank.

“The greatest risk facing online business banking customers today is the security of their own PCs and networks. With Wheatland Secure we are offering our customers with a way to conduct online banking transactions on a dedicated, secure and isolated platform that’s convenient for them to use. Customers can now be assured that they have the same level of safety and security that they get inside the Wheatland Bank branches when they go online to bank and conduct business.”

According to recent reports from the Anti-Phishing Working Group (APWG), it is estimated that 25 percent of all computers are infected with banking Trojans, password stealers or down loaders capable of installing programs to take over customer PCs. With Wheatland Secure, customers know that they are accessing an authentic site and their transactions are not being monitored or tampered with by crime ware.

Dave Jevans, IronKey’s founder and chairman said, “What makes financial malware threats so dangerous is they go undetected even with up-to-date anti-virus software, firewalls and other software-based security. Wheatland Bank is further differentiating their client-focused services with IronKey’s Trusted Access, because it isolates clients’ online access in a safe, bank-managed environment that is independent of their PC. That protects online banking customers even if their PC has been compromised with financial malware, including keyboard loggers, man-in-the-browser or ‘back connect’ Trojans.”

With Wheatland Secure, users will launch their online banking tools through a secure portal accessed from their desktop. The IronKey Trusted Access browser take the user directly to Wheatland Bank’s website and prevents visiting fake websites introduced by phishing or other scams. To protect users from ever-changing malware, Trusted Access does not rely on potentially compromised and vulnerable applications on the user’s host computer. Instead, a secure, encrypted connection to online banking is made through the IronKey Trusted Access network to lock out man-in-the-middle and DNS address redirect attacks. Advanced encrypted keyboard input protects users from key loggers while entering credentials and other sensitive data.

“Partnering with IronKey is a strategic initiative for Wheatland Bank to deliver innovative risk management tools to our community,” added Horton. “Wheatland Secure (IronKey Trusted Access) is part of our commitment to help protect our customers’ financial security.”

Wheatland Bank, formed in 1979 in Davenport, Washington, is a locally owned independent community bank. Wheatland Bank’s commitment to eastern and central Washington is strong and has deep roots. It’s a commitment that is kept alive with powerful local ownership and decision-making.
