John Jacob Hennings

John Jacob Hennings, died Thursday, Feb. 2, 2012, at the age of 90, at Life Care Center in Ritzville.

He was born Sept. 26, 1921 at a farm home near Emden Station, Adams County, Wash., to Carsten Herman Hennings and Elizabeth Boyd Hennings. When he was a few days old, he moved with his family to the Frank Norris farm in the Carico Hills, where he lived the rest of his life, until he entered Life Care Nursing Home in Ritzville in May 2011.

He is survived by his wife Pauline (Pennell Cundiff) Hennings at the farm home in Sprague, Wash .; Mary Louise (Steve) Courchaine, Newman Lake; Ronald John (Ann Kilpatrick) Hennings, Sprague; grandchildren John Jared (Rebecca) Taylor, Houston, Texas; Chase Courchaine, Houston, Texas; Sarah A. Courchaine, Phoenix, Ariz .; Heather, Hugh and Heidi Hennings, Sprague.

Siblings are Walter Hennings, Ritzville, deceased; Ann Yates, Spokane; Freda (Rudy) Thaut, Ritzville; Dorothy Soderstrom, Walla Walla; Willard (Pat) Hennings, Ritzville. He has many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He attended country school in Adams County and graduated from Ritzville High School in 1939. After graduation he farmed with his parents, eventually acquiring his own cattle and land properties in Adams and Lincoln Counties of Washington. He was named “Adams County Cattleman of the Year” in 1966. He was a member of the Elks, BPOE Lodge #1930 and a Cattleman’s Association member. He was a charter member of the Ritzville Rodeo Association. He ran the rough stock gate until his early eighties for the Labor Day Rodeo.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 7, at the Emanuel Lutheran Church, Ritzville. A private internment is planned for a later date.
