Lind-Ritzville/Sprague Lady Broncos trounce OH, fall in league

A big non-league win over Odessa-Harrington last week wasn’t enough to propel the Lady Broncos of Lind-Ritzville/Sprague to victory over a pair of league opponents this weekend.

On Tuesday, Dec. 6, they defeated OH, 43-28. Friday they fell on the road at Davenport, 53-37. Saturday they hosted Reardan and were crushed 70-29, by the league favorite.

Head coach Randy Heidenreich was happy to have a win, but also discovered his team struggles against fast moving opponents.

“We had 22 turnovers because they tried to trap us out of their half court defense,” Heidenreich said. “Our posts got easy looks but we had too many bad passes because we were in a hurry. When we play quick teams we really struggle.”

Davis Killian led the scoring with 10 points. Dalyn Killian delivered nine. Kailey York scored five while Jenna Bennett and Andrea Bennett each scored four. Chelsey Heidenreich and Catherine Hentges had three points. Brooke Pichette and Mallory Kessler each scored two.

Friday the Lady Broncos were still struggling with turnovers, giving up 30 in the game.

They also had to defend against a single player, Miranda Mielke, who scored 31 points in the game.

“She effectively killed us,” Heidenreich said. “And we lacked poise on press break.”

Jenna Bennett led the team scoring with nine points. Davis Killian and Hentges each had seven points. Pichette scored six. Dalyn Killian and Andrea Bennett contributed four points a piece.

The Reardan game was a turnover nightmare. Heidenreich said the team gave up the ball 30 times, 21 in the first half, which contributed to a 42-14 first half deficit.

This week Heidenreich said the team will work on breaking full court press.

We will put eight or nine out there against five,” he said “And, we played zone defense against Reardan and they killed us. Our defense definitely needs to step up.”

Davis Killian scored eight points in the Reardan game to lead the Lady Broncos. Andrea Bennett scored six.

Heidenreich and Dalyn Killian each had four. Pichette scored three while Jenna Bennett and Hentges each had two.
