Police searching for day-time burglary suspect

A Ritzville woman, while checking on her sister’s Broadway Avenue home, encountered a burglar on Monday. Ritzville Police were called to the Broadway Avenue home about 10 a.m. on Monday. Sergeant Mark Cameron was in the Adams County Courthouse at the time, and ran to the residence, but was unable to locate the suspect who fled out the backdoor and over a fence.

According to Police Chief David McCormick, the suspect allegedly gained entry through a back door and was successful in stealing a significant amount of jewelry despite being interrupted during the crime.

McCormick said Faye Schmidt was in the house when she encountered the intruder as they attempted to escape. The man, described only as being about 5 foot 8 with dark hair, ran past Schmidt as he exited a bedroom.

Anyone with information about the case should call police at 659-1313.
