LaCrosse-Washtucna Tigercats flatten Kootenai, 42-14

After a decent start in the first half, outscoring Kootenai 16-8, the LaCrose-Washtucna Tigercats blew the game wide open and rolled to a 42-14 win. The eight-man grid team was led by the scoring prowess of Sawyer Hostetler, who racked up five touchdowns.

Hostetler scored all but one of the Tigercats touchdowns, rambling across the goal line with a variety of efforts. He scored in the first quarter on a nine-yard run. In the second quarter it was a four-yard effort. He followed that with a three-yard run and then a 31-yard run. He finished the night with a 60-yard effort in the fourth quarter. The other score came in the final period of play when quarterback Jake Aune hit Matt Stubbs on a 31-yard pass play.

“Hostetler had a huge night. It was awesome,” head coach Jeff Nelson said.

The ball carrier racked up 185 yards rushing on 16 carries.

The passing game wasn’t feable either during the outing as Aune connected often, throwing for 309 yards on 21 completions out of 27 attempts.

Sam Harder hauled in six passes for 80 yards. Stubbs caught three for 97 yards and the touchdown. Hostetler proved versatile, catching five passes for 67 yards. Austin Summers pulled in six catches for 65 yards.

“It was a good well-balanced night,” Nelson said.

If he could change one thing, it would be turnovers. The Tigercats had three fumbles and an interception.

This week the Tigercats head to Odessa for a contest with Odessa-Harrington. Don’t be late for this game as it’s sure to be a sell out during Deutschesfest weekend.
