DIG's Invitational notes top scores

The 2011 Danekas DIG’s Invitational Golf Tournament, in its 46th year, was started by Ralph Danekas at Priest Lake in 1965. It has been held in Ritzville since 1975.

This year 50 golfers participated in the event, with 22 of them coming from out of town.

The tourney was divided into three flights. The third flight included golfers with a handicap of 18-27. First gross winner was Tony Vostral with a score of 87 followed by Jerry Crossler as second gross with 88. Larry Kison posted a 92 for third gross.

First net winner was Jerry Neilan with a net score of 67. He was followed by Gayle Gering at second net with a 68; Gary Roberts, third net with 69; Dave Benedict, fourth net, 71; Mike Bauer, fifth net, 72 and tied for sixth net were Pat Yerxa, Alan Thompson and Bryan Roberts at 74.

Closest to the pin were Larry Kison, Bob Wiitala and Tony Vostral. Longest drive was Alan Thompson.

The second flight, consisting of handicaps 11-17, posted first gross winner of John Kragt with a 76. Coming in second was Cory Dahlman, 82; and Jake Phillips, third gross, 85.

First net winner was Chris Peha at 67 followed by Brett Roberts, second net, 70; Lance Bon, third net, 71; Josh Friend, fourth net, 72; and tied at fifth net were Ron Grams and Dan Packard with 73.

Closest to the pin were Jake Phillips, John Kragt, Lance Bon and Dave Belles. Longest drive went to Brett Roberts.

First flight winners, at handicap +2-10, included first gross winner Darin Danekas with a 64. Second gross went to Chris Barker with 74 and Brian Gordon took third gross with 75.

First net winner was Chris Jennes with 66 followed by Cory Morley, second net, 68, Bruce Benzel, third net, 69, and a tie for fourth net with Steve McPherson and Dan Duff at 71.

Closest to the pins came from Ian Fitch, Darin Danekas, Brian Gordon and Steve McPherson.

The horse race winners were the team of John Kragt and Brett Roberts, first; Kirk Danekas and Jake Phillips, second; and Bill Parrish and Tony Vostral, third.
