  • Ralston Grange to host Christmas program, potluck on Sunday

    The Ralston Grange will continue the tradition of sponsoring a Christmas potluck and program. This year the annual event will take place on Sunday, Dec. 4, and will begin at 5 p.m. This event is open to all area residents with families in Ritzville, Lind, Washtucna, Benge and Ralston.   • Shop with a Cop expands, community support needed

    The Ritzville Police Department is gearing up for the annual Shop with a Cop program. Local law enforcement, including the Adams County Sheriff’s Office and the Washington State Patrol will take selected children shopping for Christmas gifts for their siblings and parents.   • Lind makes plans for Christmas parade

    The Lind Chamber of Commerce will be hosting the 12th annual Lind Christmas Parade on Sunday, Dec. 11, at 5:30 p.m. The festivities for the event will begin at 3 p.m. the same day. There will be free chili, soup, hot dogs and pictures with Santa all available at the Lind Senior Center.     The Ritzville High School Theatre Arts students will be putting on a production called “The Fearsome Pirate Frank” on Dec. 12 at 7 p.m. in the grade school gym. Pat Lydersen wrote “The Fearsome Pirate Frank” and it is presented courtesy of Pioneer Drama Service. The play is a pirate farce with 20 actors playing more than 60 different characters.   • Apple Cup food drive complete

    The FBLA and FFA chapters at Ritzville High School rivalry food drive in association with the Apple Cup game is complete. The winner of the Apple Cup food drive is the WSU Cougars. The Cougars won with a total of 194 non-perishable food items while the Huskies put up a good fight with 165 food donations.   • Giving Tree ornaments ready for adoption

    Sterling Savings Bank is hosting its annual Giving Tree event that started last week and will conclude on Friday, Dec. 9. There are around 90 ornaments on the tree this year. The ages of those in need range from 0-18 year olds and people 65 years and older. Gifts purchased can be left under the tree wrapped or unwrapped at the bank.     Fall prevention classes began at the Zion Philadelphia United Church of Christ’s fellowship hall on Monday, Nov. 14, to help participants reduce their chances of injuring themselves in a fall. Stay Active and Independent for Life (SAIL) classes are sponsored by the ZP Church and East Adams Rural Hospital. SAIL classes take place on Mondays and Thursdays at 3 p.m. at the ZP Church.     A partnership between Big Bend Community College and Inland Helicopters of Spokane will provide opportunities for students to become helicopter pilots while earning an associates degree.     Election results in Adams County were certified Tuesday morning following the final vote tally following the Nov. 8 General Election. A contested Ritzville City Council race was narrowly decided, just missing the threshold for a required manual recount. Incumbent Barney Street defeated Debbie Chapman by nine votes, 315-306. A recount is automatically initiated when the margin of victory is less than one-half of one percent. In this race, Streeter garnered 50.72 percent of the vote to Chapman’s 49.28 percent.     Unknown vandals gained access to Lind High School late Friday night, breaking windows, discharging fire extinguishers and taking a laptop computer and digital camera. The Adams County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident as a burglary. Undersheriff John Hunt said the investigation is ongoing. “There was evidence left at the scene that may be helpful, but we are not willing to disclose that at this time,” Hunt said. Benner was a man who forged an indelible mark in Ritzville history by creating swim champions out of small town sons of farmers and merchants.     Last week, Ritzville Grade School was filled with legendary individuals ranging from Tutankhamen to Elizabeth Taylor. A total of 74 students participated in the Living Wax Museum event that took place in the Grade School small gym and a few classrooms.   • Lind School Board proposes M&O levy

    The Lind School Board met on Monday, Nov. 28, to discuss the Maintenance and Operations levy renewal. The current levy is at $2.67 generating $597,879. The Board has proposed a new levy assessment at $3.05, which should create a total amount of $688,573. The last levy passed at an amount of $2.84 before the equalization of the state, creating the total amount to become less. Kragt is currently a fifth trimester student in the Doctor of Chiropractic program.
