The Ritzville School Board met on Monday, Nov. 21, to discuss the Maintenance and Operations levy renewal. The current levy is at $2.99 generating $881,000 for district operations. The board has proposed a levy at $3.16 per $1,000 of assessed property valuation. The new levy would provide $933,000 in funding. At the end of this year’s Operation Christmas Child drive at Life Care Center of Ritzville, the facility counted 198 shoeboxes ready to go to needy children around the world. This exceeded the facility’s goal of 175. Karen Scheel, who organized the effort at the center, attributed this result to the dedication of local sports teams and churches in the area and the facility’s own associates. Marilyn Kay “Marty” Lesser died Nov. 18, 2011, at Mesa, Ariz. She was married to Torre Lesser, a Ritzville High School graduate. Memorial services were held Nov. 21 at Mesa. Burial will be held in Lincoln, Neb., at a later date. A full obituary will be published in next week’s paper....
Homer “Dean” Wright, age 88, of Issaquah, died Nov. 13, 2011, in Spokane. He was born on Dec. 3, 1922, in Walla Walla, to Lola and Preston “Woody” Wright. The youngest of four children, he is survived by his beloved big sister, Shirley Yager of Othello. He graduated from Lind High School and joined the US Navy at the age of 19. Frances Jean Staley, age 87, died at her home on Nov. 21. She was born in Little Falls, Minn., on Feb. 8, 1924, the daughter of Arvid and Nellie Anderson. She lived there until she graduated from high school. In 1942 her family moved to Portland, Ore., and she began nurses training in The Dalles, Ore. She married Ernest Staley June 25, 1945, while he was serving in the U.S. Army. In September 1945, she graduated from nurses training and joined her husband who was stationed in... Full story

I don’t know if Herman Cain is guilty of “inappropriate” behavior toward women employees of the National Restaurant Association but it was dumb of him not to anticipate accusations of some going public when he became a threat to his fellow candidates for the Republican presidential nomination.
