  • Your Senator's Perspective - Special session on horizon

    Sen. Mark Schoesler, Ritzville, 9th District|Updated Nov 17, 2011

On the Monday after Thanksgiving I will be back at the Capitol to begin a “special” session of the Legislature. I’ve been through plenty of these in 19 years, and most of them aren’t all that special – they tend to happen only because the Legislature failed to get its work done in the time allotted by the state constitution for regular legislative sessions (105 days in odd-numbered years, 60 days in even-numbered years). Of course, some of the special sessions have been more deserving of the name. In November 2007, for examp...

  • Hide and Seek...

    Dale Anderson|Updated Nov 17, 2011

There are those times that we try to find something to write about and there it is. Maybe one of the biggest stories in the sports world has been coming out of Pennsylvania State University. A former defensive coordinator for the Penn State Nittany Lions has been accused of taking advantage of young boys. Jerry Sandusky has denied any sexual abuse but there was at least one witness to some inappropriate behavior that was reported to Joe Paterno but never to the police who...

  • Let's shop in Ritzville this year

    Sandra Weigand|Updated Nov 17, 2011

Do you treasure the shopping memories of Christmases past? Remember the parking place in the back 40, an icy trudge to the mall while winds blew stinging sleet into your face, the challenge of surviving the parking-place-seeking fiends who treated the parking lot like a demolition derby? Soon you transformed into a battered and bruised shopping martyr from all the jostling, rudeness and long lines, all to pay exorbitant prices for gifts you ‘settled’ for out of frustration and fatigue. You balanced arm loads of packages whi... Full story
