  • Ritzville chamber does the best it can

    Updated Sep 8, 2011

After reading Miles Athey’s comment in the paper last week I felt I needed to reply or at least have a rebuttal. I once ate lunch at a restaurant a few years ago and I noticed something written on the front cover that I thought was good advice. It said, “If you enjoy your meal, tell your friends; if you don’t tell us!” I believe this is great advice. As a former board member of the Ritzville Area Chamber of Commerce for two years and its president for four more I was greatly disappointed with Miles’ comments. I guess Mil... Full story

  • Ritzville’s red tape drove business away

    Updated Sep 8, 2011

My wife and I decided to drive to Davenport for fun. While having lunch outside the restaurant we started talking to a couple who had just flown in from the coast. She asked where we were from. I said Ritzville. She said oh, we tried to build a hanger there for our plane but we got so much red tape from the city that we decided to build here in Davenport. I thought wow, here this town wants people to come and live and visit here but throw up so much red tape and codes that they go elsewhere. This story speaks for itself. Bob...

  • Smells Like Football...

    Dale Anderson|Updated Sep 8, 2011

Last Friday night I got to help out at the Jamboree again as part of one of the chain gangs. I really enjoy doing this because it is a little more relaxed atmosphere than a scheduled game. I try to chat with a player or two from some of the visiting teams as well as the referees. I’ve noticed that some players are more than willing to talk about their team and the schedule they have ahead of them. They also ask me about the Broncos schedule and I get the feeling that they h...

  • Americans need more sleep, so another study says

    Updated Sep 8, 2011

There’s been another one of those sleep studies warning us once again that millions of Americans are sleep-deprived, thus making us vulnerable to heart attacks and strokes, dumbed down students and drowsy drivers. The latest is according to a study presented at the American Academy of Sleep’s annual meeting in June in Minneapolis and reported in USA Today last month. It shouldn’t surprise you to be told that men tend to be night owls, wanting to go to bed later and get up later, while women are more often morning peopl... Full story

  • Candidate’s husband says mud slingers have facts wrong

    Updated Sep 8, 2011

Who has threatened to “close the doors” to the present hospital? Who has stated that “All we need is a super clinic?” Who has suggested that a triage center is all that is needed? Who is sending lab work to Moses Lake or Spokane that could be done locally? Who is sending patients to hospitals outside the city for procedures that could be done locally? Who is turning hospital board meetings into shouting matches? Who is questioning every vote made by the hospital board? Who is questioning every decision made by our hospita...
