    The Ritzville Water Park will remain open through this Sunday, Aug. 28. Hours of operation are: Thursday, 12:30-7 p.m.; Friday, 12:30-9 p.m.; closed Saturday; and Sunday, 1-5 p.m. open swim. The Adams County Park and Recreation District No. 4 (Ritzville) will resume regular monthly meetings the second Monday of each month beginning Sept. 12.     How much water will be needed to support communities, farms and fish in the Columbia Basin and where it will come from is the focus of a near-final report from the Washington Department of Ecology’s Office of the Columbia River. “The Columbia River Basin Long-Term Water Supply and Demand Forecast” is being developed by Ecology with assistance from Washington State University and Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife.   • DUI enforcement set in Adams, Grant and Lincoln Counties

    Twelve people died in Adams, Grant and Lincoln Counties in Driving Under the Influence (DUI) crashes last year, according to preliminary data on July 18, 2011, from the Fatality Analysis Reporting System. In an effort to save lives, extra officers will be looking for DUI drivers between Aug. 19 and Sept. 5 during the annual Drive Hammered, Get Nailed campaign.   • Sheriff's office to upgrade armory

    The Adams County Sheriff’s Office received the go-ahead to replace 30 handguns for its law enforcement officers. The Adams County Commissioners approved a proposal by consensus to acquire 30 Smith & Wesson 40-calibur handguns on Aug. 22. There are currently 30 firearms that are out of service because they are worn out.     The president of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie No. 2739 was assaulted outside the club on Aug. 5. Ritzville Police arrested two men at the scene after interviewing witnesses and talking to the victim, Robert Tracy.     Last week a second city well began experiencing problems, putting the city’s water system in a precarious position. This time the Koch well faltered and appeared to be blowing air, an indication the aquifer had dropped and the well’s pumping system was struggling to extract water. Public Works Director Larry Swift said this week that the city is currently using just one well to meet demand — Well No. 8, the city’s primary well.     A Spokane Valley man was airlifted by Northwest MedStar to Sacred Heart Medical Center Saturday after a motorcycle wreck on State Route 261. A female passenger was taken by ambulance to East Adams Rural Hospital and later transferred to SHMC. The accident occurred at 3:38 p.m. at milepost 40.8 when Charles T.     Ritzville’s fire station was emptied Monday when crews took all of the fire district’s equipment out of the barn to battle a wheat and stubblefield fire. Crews were dispatched to the fire about 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The fire was burning in a field along the north edge of Neergard Road, just west of Paha-Packard Road.
