  • Dan Evans would serve America well

    Don C. Brunell, Business Commentator|Updated Aug 24, 2017

Recently, family, friends and dignitaries gathered at Hurricane Ridge near Port Angeles to celebrate the designation of the Daniel J. Evans Wilderness at Olympic National Park honoring Washington’s distinguished three-term governor and U.S. Senator. Today, America needs a calming voice of reason: a steady and measured leader with the strength, experience, and ability to unify our nation. Daniel J. Evans fits that mold. At 91, Evans is still spry and fit. His legacy is he worked with Democrats as well as Republicans to get t... Full story

Senator Mark Schoesler, Ninth District|Updated Aug 24, 2017

As a farmer whose wheat crop gets water only from the heavens, I like to say that when it comes to rain, there’s no such thing as “bad” rain. But I almost had to rethink that earlier this month, when rain arrived while we were out cutting wheat. Fortunately, we were just about at the tail end of harvest, so it was still a successful year with yields that were significantly above average. It’s been great to wear my farmer hat more than my senator hat for the past month, since our third overtime session of the year ended. Howev...

  • Need for community support

    Updated Aug 24, 2017

Five years ago I built the Lind Community Garden. I have made it a free resource for the community. I have devoted countless hours and a considerable amount of my own money as well as several thousand dollars of grants. There has been very little support and a lot of opposition. This week, I was subjected to obscene verbal abuse by someone who has imagined an affront. That is enough. Lind is in desperate need of something, anything, good. I tried to make my community a better place to live. If anyone wants to take over the...

  • Feeling the loss

    Dale Anderson|Updated Aug 24, 2017

It has been a sad couple of weeks for those former RHS students that attended the brick building on Seventh Street from 1968-1973. We lost a couple of coaches/educators and a former principal. I found out last week that Bob Hubbard passed away a little over a month ago, due the complications following a surgery. For those of you that read The Journal religiously and are a fan of From the Files, you most likely read about Hubbard’s hiring in the 50-year portion of last w... Full story
