  • Broncos baseball season concludes at District Tournament

    The Lind-Ritzville/Sprague Broncos baseball team ended their 2018 season on May 1 in first round of the District 7 2B League Tournament. The Broncos lost to Springdale, 2-0, in a game that lasted nine innings. Head Coach Jason Aldrich said LRS defense played well for the majority of the game as they managed to prevent the Chargers from mounting their offense for the first eight innings.   • Lady Broncos win four of six before District playoffs

    The Lind-Ritzville/Sprague Lady Broncos fastpitch softball team went 4-2 in the last week of the regular season. The Lady Broncos began their six-game streak on May 1 with a sweep over Reardan in a Northeast 2B League South doubleheader, winning 22-3 and 16-4. In game one against Reardan, LRS scored seven runs in the first inning en route to winning 22-3 in six innings.     WASHTUCNA ELEMENTARY Reading Month was once again a huge success. Students read a total of 17,910 pages during the month of March. The theme this year was pirates. Students received bandanas, eye patches and mustaches throughout the month. They took part in a partner read, Booknic and scavenger hunt as well as learning about sea animals, famous pirates, parts of ships, weather and maps.     Winchester Gems has opened a storefront location in Lind at 113 North I Street, just two doors down from Kindra’s Coffee Bar in Lind’s business district. The shop offers a variety of handmade crafts and jewelry such as unique dreamcatchers, dreamcatcher mobiles, hair pins, necklaces and barrettes. There is also a fishing wall with a variety of lures.     Marlene Diane Thiel Rutter passed away Friday, May 4th, in the care of her daughters and grandchildren. Marlene was born May 31, 1935 in Ritzville, Washington to Lawrence and Pauline Thiel. Marlene grew up, with her brother Lamar, on the family wheat farm, loved and surrounded by aunts, uncles and cousins. She was baptized and confirmed at the Philadelphia Congregational Church.   • Annual Food Drive on May 12

    The annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive will occur in Ritzville on Saturday, May 12, by the National Association of Letter Carriers. On May 12, residents are asked to leave a bag of healthy, nonperishable food in or near their mailbox, which will be picked up by local mail carrier.
