Free fishing weekend on tap for June 8-9

OTHELLO – Dust off those rods and reels and head to the PotHoles this Saturday and Sunday, June 8-9, for a free fishing weekend.

In accordance with the law creating the paid Discover Pass, the state Department of Fish and Wildlife is opening up state waters for fishing without a license.

Trout and warm water species may be caught and kept, as can shad. But fish requiring a catch card — salmon, steelhead and sturgeon, to name a few — still require an angler to have a license, officials said.
