Bronco girls beat Asotin to advance

RITZVILLE – The Lind-Ritzville/Sprague Broncos enacted revenge on the Asotin Panthers by winning a winner-to-state game 16-2, advancing the Broncos to state.

The district tournament was played on Tuesday, May 14, in Spokane at Dwight Merkel Complex.

The first game for the Broncos was against Asotin, where the Broncos took the 8-5 victory, knocking Asotin to the losers bracket.

The Broncos out-hit the Panthers 12-6 in the game, leading to their three-run differential.

Hannah Towne pitched all innings for the Broncos, earning the victory while allowing five runs, none earned, on six hits with four walks. She would strike out 13 batters in the game.

Harlee Hennings picked up a triple in the game for the Broncos.

The Broncos then moved on to play against the number one ranked Liberty (Spangle) Lancers.

In the semifinal game, the Lancers handled the Broncos 8-1, forcing the Broncos to the losers bracket.

The first round of the loser's bracket for the Broncos was against the Kettle Falls Bulldogs.

In the game, the Broncos would fall behind early before taking the lead late in the contest, winning 12-10, advancing to the winner-to-state, loser-out match against the Panthers.

Much like the previous game against the Panthers, Lind-Ritzville were able to dominate Asotin, winning 16-2, advancing the Broncos to state.

Lind-Ritzville advances to state, where they will take on the number sixth ranked Warden.

The game will be played at 10 a.m. in Yakima, played on Friday, May 24.

With a win, the Broncos will play at 2 p.m., a loss will see the Broncos season come to an end.
