Season may be over for Klewin

SPOKANE - A shoulder injury may mean the end of the wrestling season for Lind-Ritzville's Emmy Klewin.

Wrestling at 170 pounds in the girls 1B-2A subregionals, Klewin finished fourth and qualified for regionals.

But she exacerbated a shoulder injury in the process and injury defaulted from her final match in the tournament Saturday, Feb. 3, at the Spokane Convention Center.

Klewin, the No. 2 seed, received byes to the semifinals, where she would face Danika Bretz of Reardan.

Over the course of the season, Klewin had pinned Bretz twice and Bretz had Klewin once.

With her shoulder already injured, Klewin lost a 9-2 decision to Bretz and dropped into the wrestlebacks.

There, she pinned Amma Howells of Shadel Park in 1:21.

The win qualified her for regionals this coming weekend in Quincy.

In her final match of the day - for third place - Klewin faced a familiar foe, Addy Steppe of Rogers (Spokane).

Steppe won the match when Klewin defaulted due to injury at 4:58 in the match.

The injury likely means Klewin's season is over.

The girls regional tournament is set for Saturday at Quincy High School.
