Smith, Tracy win gold

Broncos third as a team at Crusader Classic

COLBERT – The Lind-Ritzville Broncos brought home five medals and a third-place team finish from the Crusader Classic at Northwest Christian on Saturday, Jan. 13.

Gabe Smith and Brock Tracy both won gold medals, while Octavio Parades Martinez won silver.

Waylon Rosman and Carson Kubik each captured bronze.

The tournament didn't report girls results, but Emmy Klewin won her weight class, as well.

The medalists lifted the Broncos to a third-place team finish with 114.5 points. Riverside (Nine Mile Falls) won the team title with 131.0 and Kettle Falls was second with 118.0.

Smith, en route to the title at 215, opened with a bye then won by injury default in 1:33 over Leonard Horn of Riverside.

In the title match, he won a 7-2 decision over Brady Martin.

At 285 pounds, Tracy pinned his first two opponents, Tyson Kane of Mary Walker in 36 seconds and then Solomon Slind of Deer Park in 3:42.

He won the championship win a 8-6 decision over Julian Torres of East Valley (Spokane Valley).

Wrestling at 113 pounds, Martinez opened with a bye, then pinned Kieran Garcia of Mount Spokane in 5:09. He then won his semifinal match, 7-4, over Colby Scarpelli of Riverside.

In the championship, he was pinned by Spencer Duty of Selkirk in 3:13.

Bronze medalist Waylon Rosman opened the 120-pound class with a loss by pin to Jack Molitor of Almira/Coulee-Hartline.

He then won three wrestlebacks to medal. He pinned Odin Oberg of East Valley in 1:24 and then Austin Flanigan of East Valley in 1:13. He won a 10-5 decision over Cody Phillips of Colfax to finish third.

Kubik also finished third for the Broncos.

Wrestling at 144, he pinned Jett Marburger of Liberty in 4:58, then lost a 9-2 decision to Hudson Somes of Northwest Christian.

After receiving a bye in the wrestlebacks, he pinned Thomas Allison of Deer Park in 1:59, won a 10-4 decision over Alton Burt of Colfax and then won by technical fall (16-0 in 2:00) against Dylan Hansen of St. Maries, Idaho.

In other Lind-Ritzville matches:

120 pounds – Cooper Rushing was pinned by Austin Flanigan of East Valley in 3:52 and then by Marcus Divelbiss of Mount Spokane in 2:57.

132 pounds – Alex Bonner pinned Gavin Klar of Mount Spokane in 1:45 and then Walker Montgomery of Garfield-Palouse in 1:39. He then lost by pin to Seth Finley of Mary Walker in 45 seconds and Chace Jensen of Mounts Spokane in 1:12.

157 pounds – Pete Spain was pinned by Juan Noyola of Mount Spokane in 3:45 to open. In the wrestlebacks, he received a bye, then won a 12-2 major decision over Joel Burris of Colfax, before losing a 7-0 decision to Travis Wellhausen of Mary Walker.

165 pounds – Travis Redburn was pinned by Jaxson Hamilton of Northwest Christian in 2:22, then received a bye. In the wrestlebacks, he won a 4-1 decision over Calivn Welch of Mount Spokane and then a 8-2 decision over Dyllin Barrett of East Valley. He was eliminated by Kieson Watts of St. Maries by pin in 1:04.

170 pounds (girls) - Klewin pinned Alexis Taylor of Liberty in 3:01. Other girls scores were not reported.

190 pounds – John Branham was pinned by Tyler Doleman of Kettle Falls in 5:37, received a bye and then was pinned by Coleman Green of Liberty in 1:03.

285 pounds – Malachi Jaynes was pinned by Kaden Hippler of Kettle Falls in 20 seconds and then by Tristen Burd of Colfax in 25 seconds.
