Dean Whitman, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and uncle, went home to be with the Lord on Nov. 30, 2023. He was born in Pine City, Wash. on Mar. 15, 1927, to Harold and Ethel Whitman. He and his brother Elmer and sister Francis later moved to the farm in Worley, Idaho. Dean met the love of his life Margaret (Peggy) Kaney in California while he was in the Coast Guard. They were married in 1947 and together raised their four children on the farm in Worley. In 1966, they moved to Benge, Wash. and continued farming until retirement in 1992. Dean and Peggy moved to Ritzville, Wash. where, for many years, they enjoyed golfing with their friends. Dean was a lifetime Lions Member in Washtucna and Ritzville and a Ralston Grange Member and served on many boards throughout his farming career. Dean was preceded in death by his parents, brother and sister, wife, and eldest daughter Deann Becker. He is survived by his daughter Kathy (Dale) Kuster of Spokane, sons Jim (Linda) Whitman of Cheney and Jerry (Diane) Whitman of Benge and son-in-law Steve Becker of Cheney. Also survived by numerous grand and great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held at the Ritzville Cemetery at a later date, followed by a memorial reception. The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Washtucna-Benge-Hooper Lions Club, Ritzville Lions Club, Ralston Grange or Ritzville Golf Course.
