Broncos corralled by Raiders

Last home game set for Friday

RITZVILLE – Lake Roosevelt's big play offense took center stage at Snider Field in its 20-8 win over the Lind-Ritzville/Sprague Broncos on Friday, Oct 20.

On the Raiders' first possession, freshman Terrell Bush took an inside handoff from quarterback Wyatt Egbert and raced 80-yards untouched down the right sideline to score the first touchdown of the game. After the touchdown, Egbert fired a pass to Bush in the end zone to complete the 2-point conversion, which gave Lake Roosevelt an 8-0 lead.

Not to be outdone, Lind-Ritzville/Sprague quarterback Zach Klein directed a 60-yard march down the field that was capped off by a 4-yard run across the goal line by Travis Redburn. Gabe Smith tacked on 2 points with a run up the middle.

After the first quarter, the score was 8-8.

In the second quarter, the Broncos continued to have success running the ball against the Raiders' defense. They made it to the Raiders' 15-yard line, but were turned away when Lake Roosevelt intercepted Klein's pass at the goal line.

After the Raiders moved the ball to mid-field, the Broncos' defense stiffened, forcing a punt.

Bronco sophomore Hayes Hennings blocked the punt and recovered the ball. With excellent field position, Klein took another shot at the Raiders' end zone but his pass was intercepted.

After taking over the ball, the Raiders' quick-hit offense struck again as Egbert hit Case Marchand on a 40-yard bomb. At the 14-yard line, Egbert took to the air again, this time finding Champ Louie in the end zone to give the Raiders a 14-8 lead at halftime.

The Raiders wasted no time putting more numbers on the scoreboard after intermission.

In their first possession of the second half, Egbert connected with Marchand on a 48-yard completion and then found Bear Vargas-Thomas in the end zone to make the score 20-8.

With neither team scoring in the fourth quarter, Lake Roosevelt walked away with the 20-8 win.

"We're pretty beat up right now, but we're battling," Bronco Coach Brendan Bermea said. "Our guys gave it a great effort, but we came up a little short. The good thing is that we still control our own fate. We've got to dig deep and see what we can accomplish."

Against Lake Roosevelt, Smith carried 10 times for 58 yards and Klein carried 7 times for 7 yards. Travis Redburn carried the ball 17 times for 45 yards and a touchdown, and Cole Rouleau carried three times for 2 yards.

On the ground, the Broncos rushed 37 times for a total of 110 yards and one touchdown.

Klein led the Broncos passing attack, completing 5-of-15 passes for 71 yards. Redburn attempted one pass, which fell incomplete.

The Broncos' top receivers were Smith, with 2 catches for 34 yards, Redburn with 2 catches for 11 yards and Bridger Moore with one catch for 26 yards.

In total, the Broncos had five catches for a total of 71 yards.

On total offense, the Broncos amassed 181 yards in the game.

Meanwhile, Lake Roosevelt had a total offense of 346 yhards including 200 yards receiving and 146 yards rushing.

With the loss, the Broncos (5-3) remain third in the Northeast 2B standings behind Northwest Christian and Asotin.
