Space Force to land at The Ritz

RITZVILLE – Rockabilly Space Force is bringing its all-age, toe-tapping rock'n'roll to The Ritz Theatre on Thursday, Nov. 9.

The band performs a variety of 1950s and 1960s tunes, including music by Chuck Berry, Bill Haley and the Comets, Janis Martin, Jerry Lee Lewis, Buddy Holly and more.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and show time is at 7 p.m. at the theater, 107 E. Main Ave. There is a cost for tickets.

A five-piece rock ensemble, the Space Force bills its music as tunes from the "beginning of the space age."

The band features three vocalists, a piano, guitar, saxophone, stand-up bass and drums.

The band is fronted by Maui-based multi-instrumentalist and singer, Dayan Kai, who has been blind since birth. Other band members are bassist Olivia Brownlee, Robert Folie on the saxophone, drummer Andy Bennett and guitarist Garrin Hertel.

Rockabilly Space Force touches down here for the first time since launching a new podcast, "The Adventures of the Rockabilly Space Force," with tales of their life on Deimos, a small potato-shaped moon orbiting Mars.

In addition to playing cover songs, the band also plays original music.

"The Adventures of the Rockabilly Space Force" new podcast has a 16-episode season, and listens like a 1950s radio show. The story follows the band roughly 75 years in the future as it navigates the "Second Space Gold Rush" in the inner solar system, living on a tiny potato-shaped moon orbiting Mars.

Each podcast episode is about 10-20 minutes long, and includes a freshly recorded song, many of which are covers of rockabilly classics as well as a few original songs written by Dayan Kai and Olivia Brownlee.
