CHEWELAH – The Jenkins Cougars were hoping to be a spoiler when the league-leading Broncos came to town last Friday night, Oct. 6.

But it wasn't in the cards, as the Lind-Ritzville/Sprague boys held off the Cougars (3-4) for a 22-20 win.

With the victory, the Broncos (5-1) stay atop the Northeast 2B.

The Broncos may have won the game, but they also slipped to No. 14 in the state Class 1B poll. Jenkins is ranked No. 22.

The league's top team – Northwest Christian (Colbert) – remained undefeated at 6-0 and retained its No. 1 ranking after beating Liberty (Spangle), 42-14 on Friday.

The Broncos will host Reardan (2-3) for Homecoming this Friday, Oct. 13. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.

Reardan is coming off a 14-13 loss to the Asotin Panthers (3-2).

Looking back to last week, the Broncos played without running back Brock Kinch, part of a 1-2 offensive punch with running back Brody Boness.

Still, the Broncos rushed for 134 yards on 35 carries.

Boness carried 16 times for 82 yards and quarterback Travis Redburn rushed 11 times for 36 yards and a touchdown.

Others gaining yards on the ground for the Broncos included Joey Duff, 3 carries for 12 yards; and Cole Rouleau, 5 carries for 6 yards.

Redburn also completed 2-of-4 passes for 54 yards and a touchdown.

Gabe Smith caught one pass for no gain, but Duff's reception resulted in a 54-yard touchdown.

On the other side of the ball, the Cougars rushed 35 times for 157 yards and a touchdown.

Jenkins quarterback Nolan Jeanneret completed 14-of-29 passes for 113 yards, two touchdowns and 4 interceptions.
