Broncos sweep Lions, Dragons

Girls to travel to Kittitas, Kettle Falls

RITZVILLE – The Lind-Ritzville/Sprague girls volleyball team remains unbeaten after sweeping both Upper Columbia Academy and St. George's last week.

The Broncos (7-0) topped the Upper Columbia Lions (1-4) on Tuesday, Sept. 26, with set scores of 25-11, 25-16, 25-20.

Zoe Galbreath put in the leading performance, racking up 12 assists, 7 kills and 6 aces.

Senior Megan Melcher had 10 digs for the Broncos and Saige Galbreath added 2 digs.

For the Lions, Madison Threadgill had 14 assists and 1 ace. Kate McCoon had 6 kills and 4 blocks, and Cambrie Stam added 6 digs.

The Broncos then followed up that win by spiking winless St. George's, 3-0, on Thursday, Sept. 28.

Individual statistics were not reported prior to press time.

Despite the wins, the Broncos slipped from No. 1 to No. 5 in the state 2B volleyball poll.

Adna, Manson, Napavine and Goldendale hold the Top 4 positions, respectively.

The local girls are on the road this week.

On Tuesday, Oct. 3, the Broncos were scheduled to take on the Coyotes (5-2) in Kittitas at 6:30 p.m. The newspaper went to press before the game started.

The Coyotes were coming off a 3-1 loss to Goldendale on Thursday, Sept. 28.

Then on Saturday, Oct. 7, the Broncos will travel to Kettle Falls (2-5) to play the Bulldogs.

Game time is 12:30 p.m.

Other area teams

In other area volleyball teams, the St. John-Endicott/LaCrosse girls (6-1) are ranked No. 7 in state Class 1B rankings.

Last week, the Eagles swept Dayton on Tuesday, Sept. 26, and Tekoa-Rosalia on Thursday, Sept. 28.

Set scores against Tekoa-Rosalia were 25-20, 25-17, 25-18

This week, St. John-Endicott travels to Colton to take on Southeast 1B rival, Colton (3-3).

In Class 2A volleyball, the Othello Huskies (3-3) are also on the road, traveling to Grandview on Tuesday, Oct. 3, to play the Greyhounds (2-4).

The Huskies return home Thursday, Oct. 5, to host the Prosser Mustangs (3-6).
