Rider killed near Tokio

Motorcycle crossed I-90 and hit a fence

TOKIO – A Western Washington motorcyclist was killed in a crash Sunday afternoon, Aug. 13.

Steven V. Maloy, 64, of Kirkland, was pronounced dead at the scene near Milepost 233 of Interstate 90, the Washington State Patrol reported.

The crash near the Danekas Road-Interstate 90 interchange occurred about 1 p.m., the patrol reported.

Maloy was westbound on his custom 2017 Harley-Davidson Road Glide when he crossed over the median and eastbound lanes, the patrol reported.

Maloy struck a barbed-wire fence off the eastbound shoulder and died, the patrol said, noting he was wearing a helmet.

Neither drugs nor alcohol were a factor in the crash, the patrol reported. However, the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
