Officer shoots suspect near Hatton

Few details released before press time

HATTON – An independent investigation is reviewing an officer-involved shooting that happened Sunday, June 25, near Kulm Road.

According to Grant County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Kyle Foreman, the shooting is being reviewed by the Central Basin Investigative Team.

The officers involved – who have not yet been identified publicly – are likely on administrative leave, Foreman said, noting that is standard procedure in such a case.

Few details had been released publicly, Foreman said at press time. But at least one person was injured, declining to say who.

Foreman said he could not yet release the names of the officers involved or the suspect, noting that it has to go through a vetting process first.

The Adams County Sheriff’s Office was equally tight-lipped about the incident.

According to a statement released by the Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to assist Othello police locate a suspect for a crime in the city limits.

“Information was received the suspect was in the area of S. Kulm Road and West S.R. 26 Othello in rural Adams County,” the statement said. “Deputies and OPD officers responded to the area.

“The suspect was located and an officer involved shooting occurred,” the statement said. “The public, officers and deputies are safe and uninjured.”

Foreman said there will be updates on the status of the case as the vetting process allows.
