Eagles look for regional berths

Track teams compete in Ritzville

RITZVILLE – The St. John-Endicott/LaCrosse boys and girls track teams competed in the Class 1B Districts 7 and 9 meet, Wednesday, May 10, with individuals hoping to qualify for regionals.

The Eagle girls finished sixth overall with 52.5 points; Garfield-Palouse was first with 144, Oakesdale second with 126 and Odessa third with 102.

In boys team scoring, the Eagles were eighth overall with 36.5 points.

Valley Christian won the meet with 90 points, followed by Pomeroy with 82.5 and Mary Walker third with 79.

Senior Rory Maloney led the Eagle boys with Top 5 finishes in several events.

Maloney was second in both the boys 110-meter and 300-meter hurdles.

He set a personal record in the 110 hurdles with a time of 16.38 seconds, second only to senior Colin Hughes of Wellpinit with a time of 16.17.

In the 300 hurdles, Hughes outpaced Maloney for the win, with times of 42.74 seconds and 43.04 seconds, respectively.

Maloney also finished fourth in triple jump with a leap of 37-04.00, and was a member of the fourth-place boys 4X400 relay team.

The team (Maloney, seniors William Hubert and Pedro Molina, and junior Will Tollett) finished in 3:54.10; Wellpinit won with a time of 3:51.91.

While Maloney led the way, he wasn't the only Eagle putting in solid performances.

Molina and Tollett finished eighth and ninth, respectively, in the boys 400-meter with times of 57.60 and 57.61.

Hubert finished fifth in the 110 hurdles with a time of 19.71 and seventh in the 300 hurdles with times of 19.71 and 48.62, both personal records.

Molina also finished ninth in long jump with a leap of 17-00.50.

In boys pole vault, sophomore Joel Larsen finished sixth, clearing 9-06.00. Freshman David Logen tied for eighth, clearing 6-00.00.

Several Eagle girls also turned in Top 10 finishes at the meet.

In the girls 3,200-meter, freshman Keira Maloney was seventh with a time of 15:36.76, followed by teammate Halee Berg in eighth with a time of 19.18.72. Both were personal records.

In hurdles, sophomore Emery Molina and junior Julia Guske also had solid races.

Emery Molina was sixth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 20.86 and seventh in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 55.86.

Guske finished right behind her in both events – seventh in the 100 hurdles with a time of 21.45 and eighth in the 300 hurdles in 58.55.

The St. John-Endicott girls 4X100 relay team (eighth grader Emma Quigley, freshmen Maloney and Kate Roberts, and sophomore Sarah Quigley) was ninth, finishing in 1:02.04.

And in the 4X200 girls relay, the team (sophomore Halee Berg, Emma Quigley, Roberts and freshman Ruby Sandoval) was 10th in 2:17.95.

The Eagle best relay finish was sixth in the 4X400, with Emma Quigley, Maloney, Roberts and Berg racing to a 5:41.60 finish.

In girls field events, freshman Chloe Waddell and Sarah Quigley had strong performances.

Waddell was fifth in girls discuss with a throw of 85-09. Sarah Quigley was sixth with 84-09.

Waddell added an eighth-place finish in girls javelin, with a flight of 88-02.

Meanwhile, Emery Molina, Guske, Keira Maloney and Thomas were flying high in high jump and pole vaulting.

Emergy Molina tied for fifth in girls high jump, clearing 4-06. She followed that up with a third-place finish in pole vault with 7-06.

Guske was fourth in pole vault with 7-00 and Keria Maloney was fifth with 6-06, followed by Thomas tied for sixth with 6-00.

Guske also grabbed a sixth-place finish in triple jump wiith a leap of 28-08.00.

Athletes advancing to regionals will compete Friday and Saturday, May 19-20, in Colfax. The first event gets underway at 4 p.m. Friday.
