Daughters proud Sullivan recognized

WASHTUCNA – The access road to the new Waste Management landfill is being named in honor of a former longtime mayor who staunchly supported the development.
The access road is being named Syd Sullivan Lane, Waste Management officials said.
His daughters, Eleanor Brodahl of Othello and Karen Kinch of Washtucna were on hand for the Thursday dedication, April 20.
"He was such a visionary," Brodahl said of her late father. "What an honor this is."
According to Brodahl, her father believed developing the landfill was the key to bringing more jobs to the city, and with it, reviving life into the community.
"It's a tribute to his hard work," Kinch added. "He felt this would save our little town. He felt it would infuse jobs."
Kinch said her father would have been proud his efforts have finally paid off.
Company Senior Manager of Business Development Ken Gimpel said Sullivan was the strongest advocate for the facility outside of the company.
A Washtucna High School class of 1948 graduate, Sullivan served as mayor here for 44 years.
Sullivan was a city councilman from 1993-95; and served as mayor from 1979-1991, 1995-1999 and 2003-2015.
He passed away Aug. 5, 2018.
