On Sunday a couple of railroad boys got too much that fires the blood on board and proceeded to knock the faults out of each other all over Main Street. Marshall Harper interfered and they both resisted him so on Monday Police Judge B. F. Utter held court and assessed a fine of $50 and costs to each of them besides a suspended 30 days in jail. We are glad to know the police court is now open for business.

Will repair park house

The city council has let a contract to Tom Hallin to repair the residence in the city park by raising it, putting in new sills and otherwise fixing it up. The contract for building the pumphouse has not yet been let.

Veteran officer Chief of Police

Harry Davenport, 53-year-old retired Spokane police officer, will assume the duties of Ritzville's Chief of Police on April 1, Mayor R.E. Edwards revealed this week. He will replace David Johns, whose affiliation with the local force was terminated late last week.

A veteran of more than 25 years' experience in police work, Davenport has recently been engaged in police duties at Geiger field. He has driven and handled every type of police equipment, worked with detective agencies, and is well acquainted with this area. The newly-appointed chief was in Ritzville Wednesday making plans to build or buy a home here. His wife and his mother, who formerly worked in Ritzville, will accompany him to Ritzville.

Broncs are honored at banquet in city

Members of the Ritzville basketball team and their coach were honored at a steak dinner at Templin's Grill Tuesday evening. Hosts were Chester Templin and Elmer Logan. Attending were Coach Rex Thomason, Dick Stimpson, Roy Klein, Jimmy Schoesler, Richard Heimbigner, Merrill Schutz, Ronny Schoesler, Ronald Hanson, Verlin Elliott, and Dick Heimbigner.

Driver's death found suicidal

The death of Calvin Sites, 58, of Spokane, in the Mar. 10 crash of his car against the Tokio elevator was a suicide, the county coroner has found. Evidence given by his family members, and circumstances surrounding the crash contributed to the finding, said Coroner Richard W. Miller.

Steer killed by cougar

Adams County Sheriff Mike Kline reports that confirmation has been received that a cougar killed a 650-pound steer southeast of Ritzville last weekend. Sheriff Kline said it is not unusual for cougars to move through this area from time-to-time on a regular basis. Anyone who has animals which may have died in a suspicious nature should contact the game department, said Kline.

Phase II construction approved for walk path

Ritzville's walking path extension will soon be finished as the Adams Count Commissioners, on Monday, approved funding for the second phase of construction to complete the path. Ritzville Mayor Kirk Danekas met with the board to make the request to fund the second phase. Phase II adds about 2,290 feet of paved path to the current path which winds east from the city, through the fairgrounds and turns west back towards town. Estimated cost for this portion is $38,130 with two culverts needed to maintain drainage on the path. Funds for the project come from a designated Trail and Path Fund.

Residential burglaries occur at two Ritzville locations

Two homes in Ritzville were hit by burglars on the night of March 19 with no known suspects in either case. The first occurred in the area of Fifth and Division between the hours of 5 a.m. and 8:40 p.m. The complainant returned home from work at about 8:40 and found the house ransacked with entry gained through a back door which had been kicked in. Taken were two fifths of alcohol, 50 silver dollars dating back to the early 1800s, a carton of cigarettes and an older model video camera.
