Redistricting meeting set for Feb. 27

RITZVILLE — The Lind-Ritzville School District board member districts could change under a redistricting proposal to be discussed Monday, Feb. 27.

Redistricting is mandated by law every 10 years, after U.S. Census reports are completed. Under redistricting laws, districts must be divided into equal populations.

A presentation on redistricting will take place during the School Board meeting at 6 p.m., Monday, Feb. 27, in the Lind-Ritzville High School commons, 209 E. Wellsandt Way.

Following the discussion, the board may approve the changes, officials said.

By law, the new director districts have to be approved by April 1, in time for filing for 2023 elections.

The district is required to be divided into five, equal-population board member districts.

Sammamish Data Systems recently proposed new district boundaries with the goal of equal population board member districts of 475 residents each.

According to Sammamish Data, the current District No. 4 has decreased in population by 14%. Meanwhile, District No. 3 has increased 6%.

School District data shows the director district populations are as follows: District No. 1, 491; District No. 2, 489; District No. 3, 505; District No. 4, 482; District No. 5, 407.

A change in director districts does not change the actual School District boundaries, officials said.
