Statebound! Two girls head to Mat Classic

Miller, Klewin qualify for state wrestling

SPOKANE - The Lind-Ritzville/Sprague girls team is sending both is wrestlers to state.

Emmie Klewin will wrestle at 155 pounds and Myra Miller at 190 beginning Friday at the state Mat Classic in the Tacoma Dome.

Their state berths following medals they earned Saturday, Feb. 11, at the Girls 1B/2B/1A/2A Region 4 tournament at John Rogers High School.

Miller was first in her weight class and Klewin finished third.

Miller, the No. 1 seed, received byes into the championship bout.

In the match for gold, she pinned Mikaydi Hokanson of Connell in 50 seconds.

Klewin had a tougher road to state.

She pinned Addison Cannon of Lake Roosevelt in 33 seconds to open the tournament at 155 pounds.

But in the semifinals, she lost to Jacie Deebach of Tonasket by pin in 1:19.

In the wrestlebacks, she then pinned Rylee Holt of Ephrata in 56 seconds to move into the match for third.

In her final bout, she pinned Cannon again, this time in 4:44, to win bronze and secure her state berth.
