Miller, Klewin advance to regionals

SPANGLE — Both girls wrestling for the Broncos have advanced to regionals.

On Saturday, Feb. 4, at Liberty High School, Emmie Klewin won a silver medal at 155 pounds and Myra Miller won gold at 190.

With 34 team points, the Broncos finished ninth overall in the girls 1B/2B/1A/2A subregionals.

Royal won the team title with 138 points, followed by Wahluke with 131 in second in the tournament with wrestlers competing for 24 schools.

Miller was the No. 1 seed at the 190-pound class.

With few girls in the weight class, she received byes through the early rounds through the semifinals.

In the championship bout, she pinned Mikaydi Hokanson of Connell in 1:11 to win gold.

Klewin was also seeded among the Top 2 and advanced through the early rounds with byes.

In the championship match, she was pinned by Josie Salazar of Wahluke in 5:16.

The medalists will be on the mat again this Saturday, Feb. 11, at the Girls Regional 4 tournament at John R. Rogers High School in Spokane.

Weigh-ins are at 7 a.m. with wrestling starting at 9 a.m.

The Top 3 in each weight class will advance to the state Mat Classic in the Tacoma Dome on Feb. 17 and 18.

Those who finish fourth or fifth will be alternates to the state tournament.
