Wrestling season nears end

RITZVILLE — The Broncos hosted the league dual championship Saturday, Jan. 28, and will head to the district tournament in Pomeroy on Saturday, Feb. 4.

The local boys were seeded into districts Saturday following the conclusion of the league championship.

The girls — this year only Emmie Klewin — were scheduled to be seeded into the subregional bracket Tuesday night.

Ritzville wrestlers on the district roster include Wyatt Gibler, Waylon Rossman, Kaleb Kuyk, endall, Eric Tweeten, Pete Spain, Carson Kubik, Travis Redburn, Gabe Smith, Carson Shaver and Brock Tracy.

Weigh-ins at Pomeroy High School are at 9:30 a.m. and wrestling begins at 11.

The Top 4 wrestlers in each weight class advance to compete at regionals; fifth-place finishers will serve as alternates in case a wrestler fails to make weight, is sick or otherwise ineligible to compete.

On Saturday in the League Duals-South League, the Lind-Ritzville/Sprague boys team was eliminated in the second round by Tekoa-Rosalia.

The format pitted teams against each other; but only counted head-to-head matches, giving small schools an opportunity to place as a team.

Davenport was first, followed by Northwest Christian (Colbert). Tekoa-Rosalia tied for third with a combined Colfax-Pomeroy team. Reardan and Liberty (Spangle) tied for fifth.
