Arla June "Kechter" Wright, 85 of Charles City, died Fri., Jan. 6, 2023 at the Floyd County Medical Center. Graveside services were held at 10:30 am, Tues., Jan. 17, 2023 at Sunnyside Memory Gardens, Charles City, Iowa.

Arla was born on Dec. 3, 1937 in Ritzville, Wash., the daughter of Carl and Pauline "Gerlack" Kechter. She graduated with the class of 1956. She met her future husband, Donald Wright from Charles City in Jun. 1955 while he was stationed near her home. As they say, it was love at first sight. She was baptized, confirmed and married at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Ritzville. They came to Charles City on their honeymoon to meet Don's parents and family. She being an only child, she met a very, very large family. Upon returning to Wash. to finish Donald's time in the military they began their family, being blessed with two children, Donald Jr. and Donette.

Arla was mostly a full time mom but did hold various jobs after their children started school. The longest being a checkout person with Safeway grocery store. In 1974 they returned to Charles City. Don became the manager for Floyd County Townhouse apartments, keeping the place immaculate. Following retirement they moved to Ariz. and then back to Wash., then back to Iowa .

As a couple they enjoyed bowling, card clubs, going to movies and traveling. After Don's passing she said life was never the same.

Those surviving are her two children Don (Karen) of Gilbert, Ariz., daughter Donette Walker of Mason City, four grandchildren Ryan, Brian, Shane and Lexi and nine great grandchildren , Hunter, Tatiania, Hayden, Everett, Gavin, Connor, Kyah, Ava and Daniel.

Preceding her in death are her parents, husband Don in 2012 and her in-laws Ted and Grace McDonald.
