Girls edge Cougars, lose to Crusaders

RITZVILLE — The Bronco girls basketball team couldn’t keep pace with the Crusaders on Friday night, but came back Saturday to top the Cougars.

On Friday night Jan. 6, the Lind-Ritzville/Sprague/Washtucna/Harrington girls fell, 52-31, at Northwest Christian (Colbart). But on Saturday, they held off the Jenkins (Chewelah Cougars), 42-40.

Saturday’s game was close, with the Broncos leading by only a point after the first quarter, 9-8.

And while they took a comfortable, 25-14, lead to the half, the Cougars would outscore them by 9 points in the third quarter to narrow the margin to 32-30.

Both teams would put up 10 points in the fourth, leaving the final score 42-40.

Maddi Cameron led all scorers with 19 points in the Northeast 2B matchup. Abby Miller was Jenkins’ top scorer with 12 points.

Others putting up points for the Broncos include Zoe Galbreath, 9 points, Harlee Hennings, 7, Jojo Ewing, 5, and Claire Wellsandt 2.

Galbreath is the team’s leading scorer, averaging 14.94 points per game.

Individual stats were not reported in the 52-31 loss at Colbert.
