Broncos win one, lose one

BURBANK - The Lind-Ritzville/Sprague/Washtucna/Harrington boys basketball team won one and lost one the week before Christmas.

The Bronco boys (5-2) were narrowly edged by Columbia (Burbank), 59-57, on Tuesday, Dec. 20. Then they doubled up on Tri-Cities Prepatory, 85-37, on Wednesday, Dec. 21.

On the road in Burbank, the game was close the entire time, with both teams battling back and forth.

The Coyotes jumped out to a 12-7 first quarter lead, but the Broncos outscored their opponent in the second quarter 17-12, to tie the game at 24 at the half.

Both teams battled back and forth the rest of the game.

The Broncos put up 5 points early in the third quarter, but the Coyotes (7-0) responded by putting up 7 of their own for a 32-29 lead. Lind-Ritzville took the lead briefly late in the third quarter, only to see the Coyotes close the gap and finish the 3rd quarter with a 38-35 lead.

The Coyotes would add 7 more points to the lead before the Broncos closed the 10-point gap to 50-45.

Both teams would continue to add points, but the Broncos would never regain the lead, with the undefeated Coyotes closing out the final stanza with a 59-57 non-league win.

Tristan Frimodt led all scorers with 22 points for the Coyotes. Michael Lenke added 17.

Hunter Dinkins led the Broncos with 18 points and senior teammate added 15.

Other scorers in the game included Jace Kelly with 12 points, Brock Kinch with 7 and Hayden Melcher with 5.

The Broncos returned to their home court on Wednesday night to host the Pasco-based Tri-Cities Prep Jaguars (6-2).

The Broncos outscored the Jaguars, 85-37, for the victory.

The teams battled to a 14-14 tie at the end of the first quarter.

But in the second and third quarters, the Broncos went on a scoring spree, putting up 33 points in the second and 27 more in the third.

Meanwhile, they held the Jaguars to 6 and 8 points, respectively.

The Broncos had a 47-20 lead at the half and a 74-28 lead at the end of the third.

The Broncos' Kelly led all scorers with 36 points.

Blake McClure posted 9 points to lead the Jaguars.

Other scores for Lind-Ritzville included Galbreath with 13, Nick Labes, 7, and Lance Williamson and Melcher with 6 each.

Kinch added 4 points and Blake Earle 3.

Zach Klein, Ledger Kelly, Dinkins, Shawn Steinberger and J.P. McAnally all had 2.
