Bronco boys return to gridiron this week

Win could lead to tie for first place

RITZVILLE – The Bronco boys football team will head to Asotin this week after taking a one-week off.

The Lind-Ritzville/Sprague/Washtucna/Harrington team heads to Asotin to take on the Panthers at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29.

Asotin has yet to win a league game this season. Meanwhile, the Broncos boast a 6-1 record and a No. 3 state ranking in Class 2B football.

At 5-1 in league, the Broncos are currently tied for second with Jenkins (Chewelah) in the Northeast 2B league.

The Broncos edged Jenkins 25-18 on Oct. 7, but previously lost to the league’s current top team, the Liberty (Spangle Lancers), 27-26 on Sept. 9. That loss was the only league loss for the Broncos in more than two years.

With Jenkins blowing out the Lancers, 41-15, on Oct. 14, there’s a chance for a three-way tie for the top of the NE2B league.

For that to happen, the Broncos and Cougars would both have to win.

The Jenkins Cougars host Davenport at 7 p.m. Friday on Snider Field in Chewelah.

The Lancers are on a bye week.
