Donations disbursed to Lind fire victims

Donors help five families in need

LIND – The Lind Ministerial Association recently disbursed donations totaling nearly $50,000 to five families impacted by the wildfire that swept through this area in August.

The blaze destroyed four homes, including three homes on the hill above town and one home on the south side of the railroad tracks.

Pastor Steve Schofstoll, representing the Lind Ministerial Association, said donations were collected from more than 80 individuals and organizations. Donors included Warden Hutterian Brethren, Home Center furniture store in Moses Lake and Northwest Ministry Network of the Assemblies of God. The Washtucna Community Church also collected donations from a quilt raffle.

“The families who suffered these devastating losses are very thankful for the generosity of folks in this area and elsewhere in the state,” Schofstoll said.

He praised the efforts of firefighters who kept the fire from jumping the railroad tracks and causing additional losses.

Schofstoll said the generous response is an example of how rural communities band together in times of need.

Members of the Lind Ministerial Association include Lind Calvary Assembly God, Good Hope Lutheran Church and Lind Community Church.
