Gladys Nagamitsu

Gladys Lucille Rott Nagamitsu was born in Ritzville, Wash. on Oct. 4, 1928 to Henry and Matilda Rott. She died on Oct. 11, 2022, also in Ritzville, at the age of 94.

Gladys (Gladie) grew up on the family farm, 7 miles north of Lind. She especially enjoyed helping with the livestock. Her real love was a black saddle horse, named “Bell.” She attended Lind public schools.

This lovely young lady got the attention of a former U.S. Marine who had served in WWII. His name was Royal J. Longmeier. She and Royal were married in 1946. They farmed on the W.A. (Bill) Longmeier ranch where she and Royal raised four children. Glady often recalled the size and scope of her work load. This included cooking for a dozen harvest hands, and riding herd on 4 children, 2 of whom were just infants.

Sadly, their marriage ended in 1970. She married Dick Nagamitsu in 1971. She worked as an office manager at the WSU Dry Land Research Unit in Lind for more than 30 years, and was well respected by her work associates.

Gladie was a pillar of the Lind community as she performed a number of important functions. She attended the Lind Methodist Church for many years, where she played piano on a regular basis. She was extremely well loved by friends and family. At some point, she accepted The Lord Jesus Christ as her Personal Savior.

Gladie had 4 children, 10 grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Matilda Rott, her brother, Donald J. Rott, and husband, Dick Nagamitsu. She was also preceded in death by two sons, Ronald Steven Longmeier (Kathy) of Arlington, Wash., and Jerry R. Longmeier (Theresa) of Benton City.

Gladie is survived by her daughter, Donna Rae Bittick (Gary) of Lind; and by her son, Robert Longmeier (Lois) of Wallula.

A grave-side memorial service is planned for Mrs. Nagamitsu at the Lind Cemetery at 10:00 AM on Sat., Oct. 22, 2022.

Following the service, lunch will be served at the Lind Lions Club. All are welcome. Any donations should go to the Lind Senior Center in lieu of flowers.
