Spokane Concern Assists

The Tru Blu Biscuit Company of Spokane were good boosters during the Round-Up. They sent their decorator down and put on a display of box candies in the Ritzville Drug Co. booth, and a big bunch of their force came down for the show.

Ten Bike Riders Warned During Police Road Block

Ten Ritzville youths received written warnings about bicycle riding violations in a "road block" law enforcement officers threw up at Evergreen school Oct. 5. Police Chief Donald Koehler and Sgt. Marvin Koch of the State Patrol were stopping bike riders near Sixth Avenue and Chelan Street. Trooper Fred Young was stopping violators as they entered the playfield at the rear of the Evergreen school. The citations continued from 8 a.m. till 8:30.

The violations cited fall into three main classes, said Sgt. Koch: failing to stop for a stop sign, driving on the wrong side of the roadway, and racing on the wrong side or in the roadway center.

EARH plans upgrade on heart monitoring system

Can you imagine the difference in a computer system built in 1983 and one manufactured today? That type of difference is similar to what East Adams Rural Hospital is facing with its current heart monitoring system. It still works, but is limited in the type of information provided. That system may soon change if the district's board of directors approves its 1998 budget.

Included in its capital budget is a request for $100,000 to purchase and install the system which allows for a capacity of up to eight patients at one time.

Burglary, stolen car investigated by RPD

A small amount of cash was taken in a burglary at Gritman Senior Center last week. Ritzville Chief of Police Dave McCormick said the burglary occurred sometime between 10 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 3, and 9:30 a.m. on Oct. 4. Unknown suspects gained entry through a false ceiling in the center after coming through a second story door in an adjacent building.

Chief McCormick said the subjects fell approximately 10 feet through the false ceiling onto a piano and then onto the floor. About $1,000 in damage was done to the building.

Ritzville police have charged Theodore J. Walker, 19, of Ritzville, with theft in the first degree following the theft of a 1976 Pontiac Firebird. He was booked into the Adams County jail.
