Schwisow highlights concerns about staff despondency

LIND - In a brief address to the Lind-Ritzville School Board on Sept. 26, retired high school English teacher Kris Schwisow provided an assessment of employees.

Schwisow, 72, noted widespread discouragement among school employees.

She has never encountered so many “unhappy and overwhelmed” staff in 38 years of teaching, she said.

Schwisow encouraged board members to communicate directly with school staff — including teachers, custodians, bus drivers, and paraprofessionals — to make their own evaluations.

She also asked why the school library hasn’t been reopened in nearly two years, noting that hundreds of books remain uncatalogued.

Retired teacher Harriett Lynch, who also spoke at the meeting, agreed with Schwisow’s assessment.
