A photo from 50 years ago – Harvesters March Along: Combines at the Howard Teske place four miles southeast of Ritzville march through the wheat fields and rolling hills Tuesday morning. Piloting the nearer unit is Teske, following at the controls of the second unit is the Teskes' son, Randy. The crop being harvested is the Moro variety.

Wheat from Flat

best in county

Rattlesnake Flat is turning out the best wehat so far reported for this crop.

B.L. Sutton is reported as getting around 25 bushels per acrew; John Baumann 18 to 20; B.H. Snyder 20 bushels; R.N. Thompson about 20 bushels, and others are in that range. This is for winter wheat.

Yields north and west of Ritzville are not holding up to their normal amount, ranging from eight to 10 or twelve bushels per acre. The winter wheat in this territory was badly injured during the winter...

Four injured in car wreck on Highway 10 early Sunday

Four people from this area are in the Ritzville hospital as a result of a car accident six miles northeast of Ritzville early Sunday morning.

The 1941 Chrysler couple, driven by Irwin Lobe of Odessa, was completely demolished after it left the road, twisted and rolled.

The occupants of the car, Lobe, Arlene Scrupps, Dorothy Wraspire, all of Oddessa, and Don Daesh were brought to the hospital by Officer McPhee of the city police fors and Sheriff Lucas.

Sheriff indignant about jail

Sheriff Clint Rowe said teh state jail inspection report that declared the county jail as outdated and poorly designed for safety is "without credence" this week.

The sheriff said that the budget for the jail that he will present to the county commissioners later this year for consideration will not comply with the recommendations stated in the report prepared by Ken DeLacey of the State Department of Social and Health Services.

The budget will contain provisions to fix windows and screens in the jail.

Special prosecutor is appointed

A Spokane County Sheriff's investigation has been completed in a matter brought by an Othello woman against Adams County Prosecuting David Sandhaus.

Maria Cantu alleges that Sandhaus assaulted her during a May 30 encounter at the courthouse. Cantu is seeking to press criminal charges against the prosecutor.

The matter was referred to Spokane County as a neutral, outside party to handle the investigation.

Adams County Sheriff Mike Kline said, "Using the available facts, no absolute conclusion was made" bu the Spokane department...
