District looks to fill positions
LIND – The combined Lind and Ritzville school boards unanimously approved adding the Harrington to the existing Lind-Ritzville/Sprague/Washtucna athletic combine during a meeting Monday, May 23.
Earlier in the month the Harrington School Board voted to accept an offer to join the combine, by a 3-2 vote.
In other business, Lind-Ritzville Superintendent Don Vanderholm reported the combined school district currently has five open positions, including athletic director, which could be filled in one of three possible combinations of duties.
The athletic director opening follows Greg Whitmore being hired as superintendent of the Entiat School District, effective July 1.
One combination is a health and fitness teacher/ athletic director at one full-time equivalency plus a stipend, or a full-time health and fitness teacher and half-time athletic director.
Another option is athletic director/dean of students for one full-time equivalency.
The school boards will consider any of the scenarios based on applicant qualifications and the needs of the district.
The school boards accepted the resignation of Lind-Ritzville Middle School Principal Chris Lupo, who plans to relocate to Aberdeen, Wash., at the end of the school year.
Lupo will be replaced by Don Walker, who is relocating from Oregon, after his hiring was approved at the April meeting.
During the meeting, Lind Board Chairwoman Jani Melcher was also recognized for 10 years of service to the Lind School Board.
