Deputy-involved crash investigated by state patrol

HATTON – The Washington State Patrol is investigating a May 5 crash involving an Adams County Sheriff’s Office deputy.

The deputy, who Sheriff Dale Wagner declined to name before press time, sustained minor injuries in a crash during a police pursuit, records show.

A minor was arrested in connection with that chase, records show. The name of the minor – although public record – has yet to be released.

According to Adams County records, the crash followed a report of domestic violence in the 400 block of A complainant called dispatchers to report a male subject punching a female victim in the face, records show. When deputies arrived at the residence, no one answered the door.

Later, a boy was spotted leaving the home and was contacted by officers, records show. He told deputies no one was injured and gave permission for a search of the house.

No one was found injured inside, records show. After talking to deputies, the boy and his girlfriend left the residence in a vehicle with a family member.

Deputies contacted the original complainant, who told them what was witnessed, providing probable cause for an arrest, records show, noting the vehicle the teenagers left in was spotted south of Hatton.

Deputies responded and attempted a traffic stop, and a pursuit ensued, with the deputy losing control and crashing, records show.

The following day, the boy was located and arrested for fourth-degree assault and providing false information to authorities. He was booked into the Martin Hall Juvenile Detention Center in Medical Lake.

The incident is being investigated by the Moses Lake detachment of the Washington State Patrol.
