Ritzville Museums preparing to open for Summer season

RITZVILLE – The Ritzville Museums Committee is preparing for the 2022 season and the opening of Dr. Burroughs Home and the Train Depot Museum. They were unable to fully open in 2020 but the Railroad Depot was open the Summer of 2021.

The Annual Meeting and Volunteer no host lunch is scheduled for Tuesday, May 17, 2022 at 11:30 A.M. at Jake’s Café.

The Museum Committee would like to encourage everyone to think about becoming a volunteer and serving as a Docent at each museum. It is a great opportunity to become involved in sharing the history of Adams County and Ritzville.

This would take 2 to 4 hours out of your day and you can sign up for as many days as you like. The museum will be open approximately 3 days a week in June, July and August with the last open day being Labor Day weekend.

The Burroughs Home belonged to Dr. Frank Burroughs who came to Ritzville in the late 1800’s with his wife and daughter and became the Horse and Buggy doctor of Adams County. The home is decorated in period friendly furniture and we still have some of the original flooring and wallpaper. You step in to the home and you are taken back in time with each room decorated just as it might have been when Dr. Burroughs built the home. Information will be provided to assist you serving as a Docent in explaining the history of the home. The Railroad Depot offers a look back at the railroad history and the community activities of yesteryear. It offers a little something for everyone and is enjoyed by young and old alike.

There will be a short annual meeting and election of officers on May 17th and at that time you will have an opportunity to sign up and serve as docent.
