Area school levies passing

Othello measure failing with only 46% support

RITZVILLE – Unofficial results of the Feb. 8 special election show voters supporting local school levies.

Ballots were counted Tuesday and Friday by Adams County election officials.

In the Lind School District, both the replacement levy for support of educational programs and operational expenses, and a replacement capital levy for educational technology improvements are passing, with 65% and 68%, respectively.

In the Ritzville School District, the replacement levy for support of educational programs and operational expenses, and a replacement capital levy for educational technology improvements are also passing.

Both have 61% voters support, according to preliminary election returns.

And in the Washtucna School District, the four-year replacement levy for educational programs and operations is passing with 76% yes votes.

In the Benge School District, Proposition No. 1 is passing with 93% support.

In other county results:

• The North Franklin School District replacement educational programs and operation levy is passing in the county with 74 voters support.

• Odessa School District’s Proposition No. 2 is passing with 54%

• Othello School District’s Proposition No. 1 is falling with only 46% support.

• Warden School District’s Proposition No. 1 is passing with 53%.

• Warden School District’s Proposition No. 2 is too close to call, with support and opposition equally divided at 50%.

• No votes were cast in Adams County in the LaCrosse or Endicott school districts’ levies.

Adams County Elections Administrator Jacque Laird said enough ballots had been returned as of Feb. 9 to validate the elections.

Countywide, voter turnout is 31%, officials said. The results are to be certified Feb. 18.
