RITZVILLE – After more than two years of inactivity, the Cub Scout program is restarting.

Cubmaster Jeff Kissler is restarting the Cub Scout Pack under the Inland Northwest Council of the Boy Scouts of America, headquartered in Spokane.

Prior to 2020 scouting in Ritzville was conducted under the Grand Columbia Council, headquartered in Yakima.

Summer Murphy from the Inland Northwest Council introduce the scout oath and answers questions.

In a meeting Wednesday, Feb. 9, Marie Sprecher, Big Foot District commissioner and Summer Murphy, director of scouting from the Inland Northwest Council, were on hand to familiarize scouts with the basics of the program, including the Scout Oath and Scout Law, and to answer questions from scouts and their parents.

Kissler and the Ritzville pack are planning a Pinewood Derby next month.

Pinewood Derby is a competition where scouts, with help from an adult, build and decorate a wooden car from a kit.

The cars race on an inclined track against cars made by other scouts.

When asked how to make the cars go faster one scout responded, "graphite."

The Cub Scout program is open to boys and girls from kindergarten to fifth-grade.

The Ritzville Cub Pack meets at 6 p.m. Wednesdays in the American Legion Hall, 106 W. Broadway Ave.
