Two injured in crash with truck

OTHELLO – Two people were transported to an area hospital with injuries sustained in a crash when they attempted to pass a turning truck.

Like W. Weaver, 30, of Renton, and Erin Marshall, 31, hometown unknown, were taken to an Othello hospital for injuries sustained in the 12:54 p.m. crash Jan. 28 on state Highway 26.

Weaver was driving a 2005 Chrysler 300 eastbound on the highway when he attempted to pass a 2010 Peterbilt truck, the Washington State Patrol reported.

The driver of the truck, Alan R. Huerta Martinez, 30, hometown unknown, was attempting to turn onto Lucy Road and was struck by the Chrysler, the patrol said. Martinez was not injured.

The cause of the crash was unsafe crashing, the patrol said.

Charges may be pending.

All involved were wearing seatbelts, and neither drugs nor alcohol was a factor, the patrol said.

Mesa woman hospitalized after losing control of vehicle

CONNELL – A Mesa woman was transported to a Richland hospital at 10:39 a.m. Monday following a one-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 395 three miles south of Connell.

Hermelinda Guizar Cervantes, 21, was northbound in her 2000 Honda Civic when she lost control of her vehicle near Milepost 52, the Washington State Patrol reported. Her Civic went off the road and overturned.

She was wearing a seatbelt and neither alcohol nor drugs were a factor in the crash, the patrol reported.

Cervantes is facing a charge of distracted driving in the crash, the patrol said.
