Wants Gen. Geothals
to investigate Columbir River Basin Project
Gen. G.W. Goethals, builder of the Panama canal, will decide whether this state shall ask Congress to favor the Columbia River or Pend Oreille projects in the Columbia Basin improvement plan if Dan A. Scott, Director of Conservation and Development, can get him here.
Mr. Scott is anxious about $10,000 worth to get Gen. Goethal's opinion after all the reconnaissances. Surveys, test borings and other preliminaries are finished and a board of engineers that includes everybody who has on the project has passed in the result of 12 borings already made on the Columbia River and 3 yet to be completed. Gen. Goethals seems to be interested in the plan.

Hatton telephone
customers now enjoying
improved dial system
Hatton telephone customers started dialing their telephone numbers Wednesday, Dec. 18, signalling the completion of work which brings improved telephone service to 51 families and business concerns in and near the Hatton community.
V.M. Johnson, manager of this district for the Pacific Telephone Company, in making this announcement said that of the 51 families now being served out of the Hatton exchange, nine formerly had no service.
The job of changing from magneto or crank type telephone service to that of dial included new construction work in Hatton as well as the extension of lines to reach the suburban customers.

Council works to regain '90' signs
City of Ritzville is looking for all of the political whomp it can get to get its business freeway loop by-pass restored.
Council members adopted a resolution Tuesday night asking the State Highway Commission to put back signs an area sign coordinator took down, apparently with the commission's approval.
The council also instructed attorney Milt Sackmann, in writing a letter of transmittal for the resolution, to ask also for a time at which Ritzville backers could meet with the commission.
Mayor Lawrence Kramer urged the Ritzville Chamber of Commerce to send a resolution also, soon, and attorney Sackmann wondered if trucking companies could be enlisted in the cause.

Broncos remain undefeated
at 8-0 for the season
The Ritzville boys basketball team is on a roll, sweeping all eight games of the season and leading the Bi-County West Division on the season at 4-0 for league play.
The Broncos opened their week of lay by hosting the Eagles of St. John-Endicott on Tuesday, Dec. 17.
"We held St. John-Endicott to 17 first half points," said Bronco Coach Dwight Pflugrath. "The kids did a great job stopping the drive and controlled the boards. The defense also got the offense rolling in the first half."
After scoring 22 points in both the first and second quarters, the Broncos took the non-league game win 76-50.
