Othello truck driver not hurt

in crash

RICHLAND — An Othello man was not injured after his vehicle was struck from behind on westbound Interstate 82 at about 11:50 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 21.

Adrian DeLeon, 41, was wearing a seatbelt in his westbound 2005 Peterbilt truck when it was struck from behind by Debra L. Hong, 48, of Yakima, the Washington State Patrol reported. Hong was driving a 2018 Subaru Forester.

The crash occurred after DeLeon and completed a legal lane change, the patrol said. Shortly thereafter, Hong crashed into the rear of his truck.

Hong, who was wearing a seatbelt, may be facing crash-related charges, the patrol said, noting she was injured and taken to a local hospital.

Detectives are investigating whether drugs or alcohol was a factor, the patrol said.

Ritzville woman arrested in California

RED BLUFF, Calif. — A Ritzville woman was arrested in California on Oct. 16.

Darian Jeanie Arlene Morgan, 25, of Ritzville, was booked into the local jail, without an initial bail, after being arrested Saturday, Oct. 16, court records show.

She is facing a charge of possession of a controlled substance while armed, records show.

Open burning allowed in area

RITZVILLE — Open burning is allowed for Ritzville Adams County Fire District No. 1, the city, Lind Adams County Fire District No. 2 and Washtucna Adams County Fire District No. 7.

It will remain open until next summer’s closure, officials said.

Residents need to call the Adams County Sheriff’s Office at 509-659-1122 before burning, officials said.

Burning is limited to yard waste only and piles no larger than 4-foot by 4-foot by 3-foot high. The fires must be attended at all times and put out at sunset.

10-digit dialing now required

RITZVILLE — The days of local dialing for telephone calls are over.

As of Monday, 10-digit dialing is required for telephone calls in Ritzville, Lind, Washtucna and other Eastern Washington communities.

To make any phone call to an Eastern Washington number, users must dial area code “509” before dialing the 7-digit phone number.

Dialing the area code will not incur long-distance charges.

The change is necessary in order to implement a national suicide prevention number 9-8-8 in 2022.

In-person meeting set for Palouse Falls

RITZVILLE — The state Parks and Recreation Commission will host an in-person public meetings about Palouse Falls, Lyons Ferry and Lewis and Clark Trail State Parks on Tuesday, Nov. 9.

The 6 p.m. meeting will be in the Lind-Ritzville High School Collaboration Room, 209 E. Wellsandt Road.

The state is hosting the meeting for input on plans to end camping and require hiking permits at Palouse Falls, citing “overcrowding.” Other plans include expanding Lyons Ferry and addressing camping at Lewis and Clark Trail.
