Bronco golfers hit Chewelah greens of varying difficulty

CHEWELAH – Golfers traveled to Chewelah, playing on two different courses based on the degree of difficulty of the 18-hole course over the simpler 9-hole course.

Some of the golfers played twice around the 9-hole course, to get a score.

Hunter Dinkins shot a 94 on the 18-hole course.

"He was the only Lind-Ritzville golfer with a qualifying score that would enable him to play the tougher course," Coach Bryce Court said.

Court said Lance Williamson improved upon his first 18-hole round to shoot a 101 on the 9-hole course, which he played twice to establish a score.

"Nick Labes also improved upon his score from Quail Ridge, by shooting a 102 on the same course," Court said. "Max Fedie and Bridger Moore continued to improve on a much harder course at Chewelah than their first course at Wilbur. Blake Esser and Ayden Alfonso mixed in better shots, but the trees and course lay-out prevented good scores."

The team played a league meet in Harrington April 22.

"At the 9-hole Harrington match, four Lind-Ritzville golfers shot qualifying scores for next week's 18-hole tournament," Court said. "Blake Esser shot a 56 with no double pars and only two penalty strokes, a definite improvement over his earlier rounds."

Court said Ayden Alfonso and Bridger Moore both shot qualifying scores of 58.

"Ayden shot the first birdie of the season for him on a tough par 4," Court said. "Amelia Court continued to improve and also shot a qualifying score, as she was able to overcome a few penalties and 'wood shots' and compete for her best score of the year.

"Tommy Rosen has gotten better at each of the three 9-hole matches this year and is making solid progress towards being able to shoot a qualifying score himself."

The team was scheduled for league meets in Colville Tuesday, April 27; and Tekoa Thursday, April 29.
